Journalist Welfare Fund

Initiated by the then NPC President, Datuk Ahiruddin Atan, in 2006, the fund aims to help journalists and their family members in the event of death during assignments or being stricken by illness. Since 2007, a total of 33 media professionals, including journalists, former journalists and photographers, have received contributions from the fund.


Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, was killed while on assignment in Somalia in 2011

Bernama TV cameraman, Noramfaizul Mohd Nor (picture above), who was killed while on assignment in Somalia in 2011, has become the first Malaysian journalist to be accorded honours at the Newseum Journalists Memorial in the United States. Noramfaizul’s name was etched on the glass panels of the memorial, along with those of 69 other journalists, at the re-dedication of the memorial in 2012 to add the names of journalists killed on the job in 2011.
